Content management system (CMS) is a scheme utilized to make out the content of a website. It is consists of two elements which are Content Management Application (CMA) and Content Delivery Application (CDA). The CMA element allows the owner, who may not know HTML, to manage the design, change, and elimination of content from the website without the expert need of a webmaster. The CDA element uses and compiles that information to update the website. The features of a CMS system are format management, web-based publishing, indexing, revision control, retrieval, and search.

The web-based publishing feature lets peoples use a template approved by the organization, also other tools to make or alter web content. The format management feature lets documents formatted in Portable Document Format (PDF) or HTML for the website. The revision control feature lets all content to be updated to the newest version or restored to the previous version. Revision control also tracks any deviations made to files by individuals. An additional feature is indexing, search, and retrieval. A CMS system indexes all data within an organization. Individuals can then search for data using keywords, which the CMS system retrieves.

Two issues must understand before an organization chooses to invest in a CMS. Foremost, an organization's size and geographic dispersion must be thought particularly if an establishment is spread out over various states. For these organizations, the transition to CMS is more difficult. Secondly, the variety of the electronic data forms used within an arrangement must be taken.
